Parent/Carer & Child Groups
13 children- 2 teachers
Sweetpeas - Walking until 2 years
Rosebuds (Mandarin) - 普通話親子班 - 12 months until 2 ½ years
Our parent/carer and child groups foster the child’s development in a nurturing, thoughtfully structured environment. The focus of these groups is to develop language, social and communication skills. This is a gentle introduction to the school experience.
During the sessions, the children have the opportunity to experience an introduction to the rhythms and routines of the school. We keep focused activities short as the children are still very young. At this age, children begin to interact with others and develop a relationship with a teacher.
We begin the session with the arrival of the children and parents/ carers where we greet one another and change into indoor shoes. The session begins with free, creative play where we encourage the children to explore the classroom and interact with each other. By observing and playing alongside others, social skills are developed and practiced. Accompanying adults will need to be nearby to encourage sharing and exploring the room and toys harmoniously. As the children settle down in the class the adult can allow the child to go off and explore independently. The adults help children to participate in small group activities and simple crafts, including baking, painting and drawing.
Children learn through imitation and absorb everything from their surroundings, including the activities of others around them. The adults in the classroom play a large part in creating the right mood and environment. The soft conversation of the adults and their own calm mood will help the children feel safe, comfortable and relaxed.
After creative play, the adults will help and guide the children to clear and tidy the room, in an unhurried way, ensuring everything goes back to its 'home'. We then gather for a short circle time of rhymes and songs. We wash hands, and sit down together to enjoy a healthy snack whilst the group may briefly discuss a topic related to child development and parenting. After snack, we go outside to the garden, where we water plants, dig in the sandbox and feed the bunnies. We finish the session back inside with a short story and a goodbye song.
By participating in the sessions children begin to form a link with the school as a whole which can help provide an easier transition at a later stage.
The Parent/Carer and Child programme is aimed at enriching family life by helping support children's healthy development, giving ideas on celebrating festivals, and encouraging early social skills through forming new friendships.
The Sweetpeas class is led in English, while the Rosebuds class is led in Mandarin.
From the Sweetpeas classes parents may choose to enrol their child for the Seedlings or Nursery classes once their children reach 2 years old.
Once the children reach 3 years old they would progress into the kindergarten classes.
