Extended Day Classes
Children attending the Extended Day programme bring a packed lunch and sit together with the teachers to eat their lunch. It is a very sociable time and gives the children the opportunity to meet others from different groups. After lunch there is a quiet time where they rest or sit quietly with a book. The children then divide into Mandarin, Creative Activities or Preparation for Primary class. The classes all follow the seasonal changes and festivals and are a gentle introduction to longer days.
Mandarin – 2.5 years to 6 years
The mandarin class is available every afternoon. The children follow a routine including creative play, craft, circle time and story; all in Mandarin! It is a relaxed session where the children are encouraged to converse freely and practice new vocabulary in a natural way, through conversation, songs and stories.
Creative Activities
The creative activities class is available every afternoon. The sessions are taught in English and the child will be exposed to a variety of different creative activities and materials. Each day has a specific activity, including baking, watercolour painting, gardening and craft. The sessions will also include creative play, outdoor play and story time.
Transition to Primary School - 4 years to 6 years
This class prepares children for international primary schools by providing a basic foundation in alphabet recognition, letter sound connections, number recognition and establishment of good writing habits. The children are creatively introduced to letters and numbers through stories, rhymes and integrated activities. Activities also include forming letters and numbers using a variety of materials including ropes, stones, logs and sand.
Within our programme, we work by providing concrete experiences moving to the gradually more abstract. Pre reading, writing and maths are daily learning experiences of the morning sessions. The children are able to work in a non competitive environment and at an individual pace.
