ENVIRONMENT
Highgate House School has a wonderful location with beautiful open views of the mountains and sea. We provide a retreat away from the city bustle with easy safe access. There are exceptionally spacious classrooms with high ceilings, great ventilation, many large windows providing natural light and patio doors leading onto the outdoor terrace.
The large outdoor area gives your child the chance to play outdoors every day, to aid healthy child development. We have space for physical activity, a garden, sandpit, a play house, climbing frames, and rabbit area.
Our aim is to provide the children with a healthy, wholesome light snack. We work with simple recipes and avoid processed food, trans fats in vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils, refined sugars, bleached refined flour and aluminum raising agents.
Each snack time consist of fresh fruit, herbal tea and some kind of baked goods, soup or congee. We believe that it is essential for children to eat good quality food as it will help them develop strong healthy bodies.
We try to involve the children as much as possible in the snack process. As the children progress through the school they have more involvement in the snack preparation. For example, in the younger classes, the children help to roll out the pre-prepared bread dough and put it on the tray to bake. In the kindergarten the ingredients are on the table in the morning and the children help with the whole process, from weighing out and measuring ingredients, to placing the finished bread on the snack table. This helps the children to appreciate the process as well as the finished product and exposes them to science and numeracy, in a natural way.
STAFF
Our team of experienced, energetic and enthusiastic staff is fuelled with a passion for Waldorf education. We learn that working on our personal development is crucial for guiding the young person in our care. We meet once a week for educational training sessions as well as gathering for both weekly class and whole school meetings. We aim to be trustworthy, caring, loving, and honest. We value regular and open communication with parents and arrange group parent teacher sessions to provide more information about the educational philosophy. We also hold individual consultations twice a year.
