Waldorf education respects the essential nature of childhood, enabling children to develop their strengths in a structured and child-sensitive environment. In the early years, a homely environment providing opportunities for creative play, artistic and domestic activities allows children to develop vital social, linguistic and dexterity skills giving sound foundations for emotional and cognitive intelligence. Children are encouraged to join in helping the teacher who acts as a role model and occupies himself/herself in purposeful activities. Through being conscious of words, gestures and actions in the classroom he/she is providing an example worthy of imitation.

Young children naturally imitate those people around them, therefore our whole approach is carefully thought out and the environment and activities are prepared to foster reverence, wonder and joy in the developing child. We have a detailed curriculum available for parents from the school office. We also offer mandarin tuition from a native speaker on a daily basis. This is integrated in the morning activities during circle time.

Daily and weekly activities are brought into a 'breathing' rhythm, which gives the children a sense of belonging and security as well as a sense of time and space.

Imaginative play is encouraged through the use of natural materials and hand crafted wooden toys, which the children use to form their own games and stories.

Morning circle is a time when the whole group gather. Here there is joyful singing, movement, games, rhymes and stories.

Snack time is a social event. Together we prepare food with care and respect. Care is taken in choosing the nutritional balance of each snack. The meal is served and eaten in a spirit of love and gratitude.

Practical activities such as food preparation, baking, gardening, and clean-up give the children the opportunity to learn to share. This begins a process of learning personal responsibility and working with others which is nurtured throughout the school experience.

Artistic activities open the child to the wonders of creativity including watercolour painting, drawing, handcrafts, beeswax modeling, and puppetry.

Experience of the wonder of the natural world and the elements can be found in our garden, outside area, sandpit and rabbit corner.

Before going home the children enjoy a story or puppet show. The story may be repeated for a number of days, appealing to the children's love of repetition and rhythm. Story time encourages participation, attentive listening and fosters a rich vocabulary. As we experience the earth passing through the seasonal changes, so also do we celebrate festivals, which reflect both the development and mysteries of evolving humanity.

Each individual child's birthday is prepared for and shared within the group, parents are invited, a special story is told, and a birthday cake made together. These festivals give further opportunities for the children to experience joy and wonder, giving and receiving, caring for others and also a sense of being special and valued in a community.
